Aster is the Dragonborn and a student at the College of Winterhold.

Aster left her home in Bruma, Cyrodiil and enrolled in the College of Winterhold in Skyrim in 4E 201. She primarily studied Alteration and Alchemy, with some minor study in Restoration. She discovered that she was Dragonborn after a dragon attacked the city of Winterhold. Her studies were indefinitely put on pause as she traveled Skyrim to deal with the dragon threat.

During this time, Aster refused company under the idea that she was the "chosen one" and thus the only person who could deal with Skyrim's problems, not just the dragons. After alduin's defeat she drifted around the province before dissapearing to the Throat of the World for months. she then returned to the College, a whole new person, to resume her studies and reconnect with the people she pushed away.

When news of Miraak's return reached Skyrim, Aster initially dismissed the threat. She was eventually motivated to deal with the matter by other members of the College, and left for Solstheim; this time with friends in tow. Aster has been quoted saying that Miraak is "a pathetic little man."
